Related Events: On April 13, the day before the Olympic Torch reaches Barcelona, the Catalan PEN Centre will send a press release to the Catalan and Spanish Media to spread the news of the Campaign. We have already sent material to some of the Catalan major newspapers and agreed that on the 14th articles on the International PEN initiative will be published. Moreover, many bloggers have been contacted and they have included news about the Campaign in their virtual space. The campaign will also be talked of during a radio program at the Barcelona Radio Station ComRadio and the poem by Shi Tao will be broadcasted in Catalan and in Tamazight.

• The Catalan Centre of International Pen was founded in Barcelona just a few months after the writer Mrs. C. A. Dawson Scott founded the first Centre in London (1921).
  
• Since its founding, Catalan PEN has been a platform for Catalan writers and literature with the aim to reach an international audience. This is accomplished through active involvement with the aims of International Pen, and in particular by defending freedom of expression, safeguarding literary patrimony and fighting for the release of imprisoned writers.
  
• Since 2006, Catalan PEN is a member of ICORN, the International Cities of Refuge Network, and coordinates the Refugee Writers Programme in Barcelona.
• Every year Catalan PEN organizes a number of events related to the main fields of activity of our Centre: Freedom of Expression and Translation and Linguistic Rights.
