  • The PEN Centre of German-Speaking Writers Abroad succeeded the German “Exil-Pen” which had been founded in 1934 by writers who had fled from or were expelled by Germany. Our members live both in Germany and abroad, mainly in the US, France and Israel. We consider the defence of free expression and opinion our main task and we try to intercede in favour of writers persecuted or oppressed in any shape or form, anywhere. Therefore, we are actively engaged with “Writers in Prison”.
