On April 7, when the Olympic Torch reaches Paris, Icelandic PEN will encourage the Icelandic media to print or broadcast Shi Tao's poem.

 

  • Though the history of Icelandic PEN goes back to the thirties in its current incarnation it was resurrected by novelist Thor Vilhjálmsson in 1979.
  • Icelandic PEN is a small centre of professional writers in diverse fields.
  • Icelandic PEN aims to be a living reminder of the importance of cultural dialogue at home and abroad. At home it wishes to encourage and support the literary activities of new Icelanders. Abroad it works with the other Nordic Pen centres.
  • Icelandic PEN is working towards the establishment of the first Icelandic city of refuge within the ICORN network.
