  • The Russian PEN Centre was founded in 1989 as Soviet-Russian PEN and then renamed Russian PEN Centre after the downfall of the Soviet regime.
  • Russian PEN has four branches which cover all of Russia: in St Petersburg, Vladivostok (Far East), Krasnoyarsk (Siberia) and Kaliningrad.
  • The most active committee of Russian PEN is the Writers in Prison Committee, which is in regular contact with the WiPC programme director at the London office. In the past two years we defended rather many writers and journalists. Some of these cases are reflected in the WiPC Case List of International PEN. We also try to support as many rapid actions as possible.
  • Russian PEN has a website on which we are going to place the details of the International PEN Poem Relay at www.penrussia.org
