Tibetan Writers Abroad P.E.N. Centre (TWAPEN) has been set up to preserve the Tibetan culture, to promote the standard Tibetan language among the exiled Tibetans. It was set up after consultation with and approval of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his administration based in Dharamsala, on March 19, 1999. It is based in Dharamsala and is registered with the Indian Government.

TWAPEN has around 150 members. The tenure for executive committee members is for five years. All the eight executive committee members are elected through the general body meeting. The current Executive Committee members are Chabdrag Lhamo Kyap, President; Kunthar Dhondup, Vice President; Jigme Dorjee, Deputy General Secretary, Dolma Kyap; Ketho; Mogru Tenpa; and Ngodup Sonam, Kathup Gyal.

We became a member of International P.E.N. in September 2003.
